A Bit About Us

I'm a lucky man. I've turned something I enjoy and
am passionate about into my business. After
working in the steel industry for 30 years I
swapped the steel mill for my woodland and
yes, I can sometimes be found whittling
spoons in the wilderness.

Mike Taylor
I support Mike's endeavours to make the most of
the beautiful wood we remove from our
woodland each year. Let's be honest, I mostly supervise, make 'to-do' lists for him and sit
sketching amongst the trees while he does
the really hard work.

Julie Taylor
We have been restoring our neglected ancient woodland in Shropshire since 2010. Our woodland is a haven of peace and inspiration for designing our handmade wooden products. Mike coppices a different area of  woodland each winter for the benefit of the woodland plants, birds, mammals and insects. Coppiced trees regrow over the following years; a sustainable form of woodland management which has been used for centuries. Each new area of coppice has its own special mix of native hardwood trees, such as oak, ash, hazel, alder and birch, which provide the raw material for our craft. Creating handmade unique wooden items supports our woodland restoration in a yearly cycle of coppicing – making – demonstrating.

MT Greenwood Crafts offer unique items from our Shropshire wood direct to your home. We use mostly traditional woodworking techniques on unseasoned green wood to keep valuable heritage crafts alive and relevant in the modern world. When the wood is freshly cut, hand tools such as froes, axes, knives and the
man-powered pole lathe, can be used to make the most of our beautiful native British hardwoods.
